"Kamala Harris 'Honored' to Be Democratic Nominee for November's Presidential Election"

"Kamala Harris Has Secured Enough Votes to Become the Democratic Nominee for the 2024 Presidential Election, Setting Up a Showdown with Donald Trump in November."

On Friday, Democratic National Committee Chair Jaime Harrison revealed that Kamala Harris has received more than the needed number of delegate votes to earn the nomination. The online voting process, known as a virtual roll call, will formally end on Monday. "I am proud to confirm that Vice President Harris has received the majority of votes from all convention delegates and will be the Democratic Party's nominee once voting closes on Monday," Harrison said in a teleconference with supporters.

Harris, who made history as the first Black and Asian American vice president in the United States, is now poised to become the first woman of color to lead a major US political party ticket. "I am honored to be the Democratic nominee for President of the United States." "I will officially accept the nomination next week," she wrote on social media. "This campaign is about uniting people, driven by a love of our country, to strive for the best in all of us."

The announcement, made just a day after the virtual roll call began, was highly anticipated. It came after Harris' campaign announced that it raised $310 million last month, thanks to a large rise in modest donations.

This figure includes more than $200 million in donations received in the week after President Joe Biden's decision to discontinue his reelection campaign. Since joining the campaign, Harris has had strong support from her party. DNC Chair Jaime Harrison declared on Friday that Democrats will "rally around" her at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago later this month.

Harris' campaign said that two-thirds of its July donations were from first-time donors, demonstrating "tremendous support" for her candidacy. This figure is more than double the $138.7 million raised in July by former President Donald Trump, the GOP's 2024 nominee. "There has never been anything like the MAGA Movement," Trump said on his Truth Social platform on Thursday evening, referring to his supporters' rallies under the Make America Great Again banner.

"We raised $139 million in July alone. We currently have $327 million in cash on hand. "Spectacular support from Great American Patriots who are donating to our campaign for President of the United States and assisting in a variety of other ways," he stated.

"All Eyes on Harris's VP Pick"

Trump launched ad hominem attacks against Harris this week, raising questions about her racial identity that critics have condemned as “repulsive.”

The escalating rhetoric coincides with recent opinion polls indicating a close race between Trump and Harris as the November 5 election approaches, with several swing states poised to play a crucial role in determining the next president.

Harris is also expected to announce her vice-presidential running mate soon, a choice that could significantly impact her support in those key battleground states.

Among the names being considered for the vice presidential slot are Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro.

Reporting from Washington, DC, Al Jazeera’s John Hendren noted that Harris will likely seek a candidate who “does no harm,” a factor that has been underscored by the Republican presidential campaign.

"Donald Trump's running mate, JD Vance, has made several controversial statements that have drawn negative press for the campaign," Hendren told me.

Kamala harris - Donald Trump debate:

Meanwhile, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) launched a new advertising campaign on Friday that mocks Trump for not committing to a debate with Harris.

The DNC has placed prominent ads on the digital homepages of major local newspapers in states where Trump plans to campaign in the coming weeks. The advertisements state, “the convicted felon is afraid to debate,” questioning whether this hesitance is linked to his stance on abortion.

In May, Trump became the first former president in US history to be convicted of a crime when he was found guilty in a New York hush-money case. He has also previously boasted about his role in "killing Roe v. Wade," the landmark legal precedent that guaranteed nationwide abortion access, which was overturned by the Supreme Court in 2022.

Trump appointed three justices to the Supreme Court during his presidency, which resulted in a conservative majority.

The DNC stated that its first ads are running on The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s homepage ahead of Trump’s visit to the Georgia state capital on Saturday, with the advertising campaign following him through local news outlets at each rally stop.

Biden withdrew from the race after a poor July debate performance against Trump that raised concerns about his age and ability to serve another term.

Trump has suggested that a planned September 10 debate on ABC News should instead be held on Fox News.

In a call with reporters last week, Trump was asked if he would commit to debating Harris at least once. “Oh, yes, absolutely. I’d want to,” he responded.
